Endorsement Entaglement

linkedin endorseBeing in search mode for a work has shown me some interesting trends that perhaps I might have not otherwise have picked up on.

Lately I have been tweaking my LinkedIn profile which I have had for 10 years but really have not needed to change other than some updates. The activity has led to others in my network seeing my profile more (I do not have a premium account as of yet). More of the exposure comes through the increase visual in the endorsement process which allows others to simply click to say – “yeah that person can do that” without having to write a long recommendation which folks are less apt to do.

From this, I can see who is using LinkedIn more. This is because folks will click on you more than once as they log in and see you and a skill in the endorsement box at the top of the page. I do this for others. I also see more of the same people more than once. It can become a reciprocal process.

Having the notice come through into your email also will show who is using LinkedIn more. This is not to say they are reading your profile, but there is definitely some sort of connection that increases with the use of the endorsement feature.

Well from what I can see anyway. I have been wrong before.

How do I endorse someone’s skills?

To endorse a skill already listed on someone’s profile:

  1. Scroll down to the Skills & Expertise section of a connection’s profile.
  2. Click the name of the skill, or the + symbol next to the skill.

If you use the English version of the site, you may see a list of suggested skills to endorse a connection for:

  1. Move your cursor over the arrow next to Send a message in the top section of a connection’s profile, and choose the Endorse skills & expertise option. A blue box with a list of skills will appear. They may already be listed on their profile.
  2. Click X next to any suggestions you wish to remove. You may also type in additional skills.
  3. Click Endorse.

After you endorse someone, your name and picture will appear next to the skill on that person’s profile and an update about the endorsement may appear in both of your network update streams. The person you’ve endorsed will also receive an email. The most endorsed skills will move to the top of the Skills & Expertise section.

Note: Your connection will have to approve endorsements for suggested skills not yet listed on their profile before this happens.
