Funny how this is all about Facebook and the power of your identity there, rather than on Google+ – which is where the story came to my attention.
German Tobias Leingruber (@tbx) is an artist and communication designer who’s work “explores mutual impacts of communication technologies and society”. Mixing art and technology with privacy and social issues, Tobias has come up with a concept for a Facebook ID card. His site, fbbureau.com reasons why it might be a good thing.
“Next time someone needs to “see your ID” – How about showing a Facebook ID card instead of the documents your government gave you? On the web this is common practice for millions of people already. Therefore – Forget privacy. The user’s next battle is about nothing less but who controls your identity, and we still might have something to say about it.”
His point is to bring attention to a possible future in which social network identity is so broadly accepted that it’s more important than government issued identity documents like drivers licenses or passports.
