Yesterday I received a lot of posts on my Facebook wall as it was my birthday. What the problem was, was that I could not readily access to see who was posting, or to like each post because of the volume. This got me thinking of how this really is a limitation for someone who might have upwards to 5000 friends on Facebook and how to manage that (say a politician during a key campaign moment). And yes I know someone with 5000 friends or even more than 1000 really needs to segment into a page and a lower amount on their profile, but then again with the new Pages being released, I would not be surprised it this is a similar problem on pages.
As my phone started beeping on posts I check that there were a few posts. To see more it was a bit of a trick on my iphone app as first it only let me see the posts scrolling horizontally – but not like each post, but then after the main posting activity died down, it grouped them together.

Notice that if you drag the post to the left, the next post shows. But you cannot LIKE at this point.
Clicking on posted outlined with the red box LATER allowed me to like each post. Something I feel one should do if someone else took the time to wish you a Happy Birthday.
Of course this was only after the main activity died down. When I went to my browser to see who wished me a great day on my wall and wanted to Like each post to thank them in a Facebook way, I ran into the Timeline which handled those multi posts in a way the wall didnt – it put them together. And not for the better.
So first it put all the posts together – though it did not do this for all of them. Some rested elsewhere on the Timeline and one as shown above came above the rest like commenting on a picture on a timeline rather than on the actual picture comment dialogue.
I decided to feature this on my timeline to see them all.
You can now see that as a feature, you can scroll, but NOT Like each post. OR even see if you have.
For this I had to click on each post to see if I did – in the case of the following I had not.
Bottom line is that the process was messy and I was feeling a bit guilty that I was not thanking those who posted by doing the Like to each post.
Maybe this is just a fluke if there is a lot of traffic on your wall, but if you garner traffic on your profile wall then this is not a good thing. And if the timeline is ported to pages with some of this type of dysfunction then it is going to be a problem quickly for page managers.
In the end I went to my mobile app to scroll and like each post I had missed. You cant do that on the browser. Then again during the flood of posts my mobile failed me because I was not able to see all the posts at once – it only showed the last two posts and then showed my other activity.
