I messaged a friend the other day and did not have a lot of time to do so. The sheer volume of old messages meant a lot of scrolling. Damn can’t I just make the new ones appear on the top?
Anyway, I found that you can delete old posts. I think it is best to do it with friends before you start a new message – wholesale delete that is. With older posted messages it can take some time to be selective. And with email piling up and other things not being answered, if you really need an answer or are being asked for a reply, let them shout again.
So to do this, go to your messages or to the person with the long message thread if you want to be exact and get in message mode. If you don’t know by now, it is clicking on a button named Messages or Message.

At the top, click on the widget icon to see actions.
Click Delete Messages.

At this point you can send all into the abyss, or start clicking away like a chicken in a hen yard to select those you want to delete. I thought like my webmail, if I chose Delete All, it would confirm or at least select all and then I could unselect the few I wanted to save – far quicker than clicking the 150 that I did want gone and not selecting the 3 I wanted to keep. No go. It will automatically (well as of now in May 2012) can them all.
What about archiving?
Yes you can do that. But I do not see why. IF you select some or all for archiving them and you can access them by clicking the archive link at the bottom of your messages section.

But it does not remove them from your conversation with the person. After you archive you get this…

Which maybe I can access if I now wholesale delete, but I am not about to risk that right now.
What do you think?
Do you clean out your Facebook messages?
Remember even though private, it is owned by Facebook and at some future time, these may be public record. Does it matter if it is 50 years after you are dead? Not to me, but maybe to you.
Time to message my great great grandkids before they are even around. LOL.
