Call me proud, but I like it when I see a bit of the Maritimes featured on a national stage.
Today, the Hartland Covered Bridge in New Brunswick is having it’s 111th anniversary celebrated with a Google Doodle.
The 391m-long covered bridge — the longest in the world — officially opened July 4, 1901, and has spanned the The bridge has taken travellers over the St. John River since 1901 and is the officially recognized longest covered bridge in the world. Which begs the question. Why is it covered and how many are there anyway?
The bridge was declared a National Historic Site of Canada in 1980.
