According to a Nielsen’s U.S. Consumer Usage Report 2012, nearly 120 million people within television homes own four or more TV sets.
Unit Ownership: Interesting that the penetration is high on HD but this reflects the ongoing decline in cost of entry for panel televisions. An emerging story here is the smart televisions – here labelled as Internet-enabled TVs. These will be the next generation replacing HD with basically a tablet with wall size HD.
- 86% have a DVR
- 75% have an HD-capable TV
- 56% play video console games
- 4% have Internet-enabled TVs
Of course don’t take this as the complete coverage of media. There is no mention of radio or print. I would really classify this as SCREEN universe. Not Media. Media is something that in this context would refer to content platforms such as the aforementioned print and radio, and also web, social, television (satellite etc) and the derivatives there of such as DVR.
